In news that will come as a surprise to virtually no one, a reboot of the 1984 hit film, Gremlins, may finally be coming to fruition.
The long-awaited Gremlins remake will reportedly maintain a connection to the past films. Chris Columbus, who wrote the original Gremlins and will serve as executive producer on the new project, spoke with HitFix about the direction that the reboot will take:
“‘Gremlins’ is actually in good shape. When I saw Star Trek, I was like, ‘This is the way you do it. You have to connect the audience emotionally to the past, by seeing Leonard Nimoy in that movie.’ We’re gonna apply that to Gremlins … We’re not gonna forget about the past.”
Carl Ellsworth (Disturbia, Red Dawn) has been tapped to write the screenplay.
