Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, will make an amazing addition to the Marvel cinematic universe, but she isn’t set to appear until the latter part of phase three, in the seventh film if you really want to get technical. Even though the film won’t release until 2018, there is already talk about who might helm the iconic film with the female strong female heroine. But who is the frontrunner?
Angelina Jolie is rumored to be the one who could be taking on the directing project, and she could be the perfect fit. After her recent directorial success with Unbroken, word is that Jolie was offered the chance to direct Captain Marvel. According to OK! Magazine, Marvel was so impressed that they are willing to offer $20 million. Nothing is final, but sources have said that Jolie is indeed considering the offer.
“Having a female director is a priority for them [Marvel]. …She [Jolie] never thought she’d be in such huge demand as a director, and to be courted by Marvel after the Sony fiasco is a huge pat on the back.”
Some have argued that Jolie seems to have everything handed to her, but a woman who holds her own and works hard is worth keeping. Considering she has two movies under her belt that she has directed, there is a good chance she will succeed again, and again. With Jolie potentially at the helm, Captain Marvel could possibly break boundaries and create a new standard for female-led films.
