Charles Dance to Play Tywin’s Corpse in Game of Thrones Season 5

Since it’s been generally established that Game of Thrones Season 5 would include flashbacks involving young Cersei and Maggy the Frog, it would be logical to assume that if Charles Dance would to return, that would have to be in flashback. Anybody who saw the Season 4 finale would remember the unceremonious but nonetheless satisfying death Tywin Lannister got at the hands of Tyrion.

However, it seems that Season 5 will not be treating us to any more of Tywin Lannister’s cunning life. Dance apparently told The Daily Beast that his appearance in the upcoming season will only be as his corpse. If the books are any indication, there will be a few scenes where Tywin’s body is found and then a wake in which his body will be displayed. ““Well, only my body!” Dance clarifies. “I don’t wake up in the shower having had a dream about it all.”

The Daily Beast interview coverage is a pretty extensive discussion of Dances career, but as far as Game of Thrones goes, there’s also speculation of a film based on the television show. According to Dance, “There’s talk of [producers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss] eventually trying to do a feature film, but I don’t know which of the storylines, there’s so much to cram into a film.” Popular speculation right now seems to be that a film may be used to cap the show (which I think is a terrible idea) or that it may be based on some of George R. R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg stories.

Even though we may not expect much in the way of performance from Charles Dance on Game of Thrones going forward, Tywin Lannister’s death and legacy are going to be felt far and wide on the show.
