This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Since Christoph Waltz was cast as Franz Oberhauser, he’s not going to tell us before the official reveal that he’s actually Ernst Stavro Blofeld. I mean why should that be? It’s not as though we’re seeing the contemporary reimagining of a classic 007 Big Bad Umbrella Organization, notoriously chaired by the codifier of all Bond villains, Blofeld. (/s)
Yes, we all suspect Waltz is actually playing Blofeld, but apparently Waltz himself is getting tired of that rumor.
In a recent interview with GQ UK, Waltz had this to say on the matter; “That is absolutely untrue. That rumour started on the Internet, and the Internet is a pest. The name of my character is Franz Oberhauser.”
That’s fine Waltz but the recent Spectre teaser trailer didn’t really help your case. Many fans felt more confident in their predictions after the trailer showed the shadowed figure of Waltz lounging at the head of a table just like the classic Blofeld did.
I seriously hope this doesn’t turn out like Benedict Cumberbatch’s Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness where everyone correctly guessing that character, despite being repeatedly told otherwise, cheapened the hook of the whole movie.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
