Did James Gunn Throw in the Towel on “Avengers” and “Guardians” Crossover?

Both Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy were summer hit blockbusters over the last couple of summers. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is in the works and Avengers 2 will be released this upcoming May. Both groups have five, and it could be interesting to see their galactic opposites together in one movie. Avengers is the most successful Marvel film with Robert Downey, Jr. Guardians of the Galaxy was the Marvel film of the year, most successful domestically and well and the second most successful worldwide.

Rumors have circled and James Gunn had something to say. “We really are separate from the Avengers, and I don’t think people should assume too many things about the Guardians play in all this. We have our own galaxy to take care of. We have our own galaxy to save. Earth is the Avengers’ province. Thinking that everything is going to come together in a perfect way is not necessarily the way it’s going to happen.”

Makes sense since the Avengers are on the ground and the Guardians are in Space. But there could be some sort of cross over we’re sure of. A couple of months ago, Gunn mentioned that the crossover has a real shot at being something. Is this whiplash or the truth?

“[Marvel and I] talked about all sorts of possibilities [for a crossover] and I kind of know what the basic plan is. That could or could not include a couple of Avengers and a couple of Guardians meeting up, or all of the Avengers and all of the Guardians. But we do inhabit the same universe and they’re pretty big personalities that are likely to, at some point or another, run into each other.”

Just note that in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War films, Thanos will be the main villain and he is supposed to be a Guardians villain? This will certainly be interesting since the stories will be intertwining.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron drops May 1, 2015. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 on May 5, 2017. The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 on May 4, 2018 with Infinity War Part 2 dropping May 5, 2019.
