Epic Cosplays at Wizard World Nashville 2014

It’s about dang time that Nashville got a full-fledged comic-con. There’s the long-running anime convention called MTAC, the genre savvy Geek Media Expo, and a badass horror convention, but it’s great that Music City’s geeks, cosplayers, and pop-culture mavens now have a Wizard World convention as well. This is only the second year of Wizard World’s presence in Nashville, and the con definitely has room to grow. Attendance jumped substantially from the first year to this one, indicating potential for the convention to keep growing in leaps and bounds.

For those seeking autographs and photo opportunities, there was the iconic William Shatner, as well as stars such as Michael Rooker and Eliza Dushku. For con-goers seeking something a little more…romantic, there was SciFi Speed Dating. And, of course, there was cosplay. Plentiful and glorious cosplay! Wizard World Nashville was a very family-friendly event, and it was delightful to see many kids catching the cosplay bug or in detailed costumes that rivaled those of some seasoned adults. There seemed to be more male than female cosplayers on the show floor, and with both males and females, there was an interesting emphasis on cosplay-mashups or character interpretation.  Some especially breathtaking female cosplayers came out at night for the cosplay contest. Check out the fantastic Effie Trinket and Yzma in the photo gallery below. The competition gave many first-time cosplayers a chance to walk the main stage and revel in the spotlight, and the relative size of this new convention gave some veteran cosplayers an edge. The contest was fierce, but incredibly friendly, and the winners – many of whom had traveled halfway across the country just to cosplay – were phenomenal.

In all, Wizard World Nashville’s cosplay scene was a sweet success. There was plenty of expert, hand-crafted cosplay on display, and epic cosplay eye candy for all. And the friendly, welcoming vibe of this medium-sized con was an ideal entrance into cosplay for a host of newcomers. Check out our gallery from Wizard World Nashville for some of the best and award-winning cosplay of the convention, and be sure to look for some familiar cosplayers who’ve been featured on All That’s Cosplay.
