The Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct ended just a few minutes ago, and players are buzzing with all the information that was handed over by Nintendo and Masahiro Sakurai. Without a shadow of doubt, one of the more interesting new details was that the 3DS and Wii U versions of Super Smash Bros. will have variances from one and other, despite their roster being the same. One of the differences is a brand new multiplayer mode that those with the 3DS will be able to enjoy: Smash Run. One might already start to jump to conclusions over what Smash Run might entail, but instead of guessing allow us to give you the facts that were delivered through today’s Nintendo Direct.

Smash Run serves as a dungeon-esque multiplayer mode that allows up to four players to engage in it at the same time. Up to four players will be pitted against each other, using the players they have chosen’s powers in order to take down randomized enemies – such as Goombas, Shy Guys, and other various Nintendo opponents, all while attempting to collect power ups in the five minute allotted time limit. While going through Smash Run, players will encounter chests and be able to defeat enemies that will drop power ups such as speed, jump, defense, arms, attack and special that will all help in aiding each player to become more powerful.

Once the clock strikes zero, two to four players will then go up against each other, battling it out during a typical Smash Battle while being able to use the newly obtained power ups – each adding that extra oomph to a player’s speed, or even how far they can chuck something, in order to take their opponents down. One thing that wasn’t revealed for Super Smash Bros. was an official release date, but Sakurai assured players that those behind the title are hard at work to ensure something amazing. The title is slanted for release this year and will be available for both 3DS and Wii U.
