The Fantastic Four will be protecting us this August 6th, and the film is taking place under the watchful eye of director Josh Trank (Chronicle). Trank has admitted that he went about shooting the reboot in a way that was really conceptualized by Steven Spielberg.
Trank said in an interview with Empire, along with Simon Kinberg, that he favors an “Amblin-style approach to characterization, and to contextualizing everything in a real world.” The mood that Trank is searching for was all within this method by Spielberg and was the tone that he used for inspiration.
There is much more than just the undertone of darkness and evil on the newest incarnation of The Fantastic Four. There were also comic elements he wanted to adhere to, to give the film a multi-dimensional feel. Thinking outside the universe was what Trank did.
“There’s the opportunity to make something that is challenging and tragic and dramatic. The opportunity is right there in the material. We’d rather steer it in that direction as opposed to just embracing a tone that comes right off the page.”
