First Look: ‘Jem and the Holograms’ Rock Out on Stage

The first photo from the live-action Jem and the Holograms movie is here, and it sure brings back memories!

The image shows Hayley Kiyoko as Aja, Aubrey Peeples as Jem, and Stephanie Scott as Kimber. What, no Shana? Their hair and styling may be slightly more tame than their 80’s cartoon counterparts, but the girls are still rocking out on stage in true Jem and the Holograms form.

Official plot synopsis:

As a small-town girl catapults from underground video sensation to global superstar, she and her three sisters begin a one-in-a-million journey of discovering that some talents are too special to keep hidden.  In Universal Pictures’ Jem and the Holograms, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice.

Judging by the classic clothes and guitars, the live-action reboot looks to be paying homage to the beloved 80’s animated series, though it’s reportedly set in the present. Based on what we can see so far, director Jon M. Chu (Step Up, G.I. Joe:Retaliation), appears to be a great choice to helm the musical adventure story.

Jem and the Holograms rocks its way into theaters October 23, 2015. The film also stars Ryan Guzman as Rio, and Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis in unrevealed roles.
