Apparently, Idris Elba, the actor behind Heimdall in Marvel’s Thor movie had given an interview about a month ago in which he said something to the effect of “it was torturous jumping between filming Thor The Dark World and mi Mandela,” a biopic on the South African Anti-Apartheid figure.
Also apparently, several outlets took this statement out of context to something like the effect of “OMG Idris Elba wants out of his contract with Marvel!”
Thankfully, Elba is here to clear things up.
“”I don’t know where people got that, man,” Elba told the Daily Beast, “I was quite specifically talking about the comparison between playing Heimdall on one day, and playing Mandela on the next. That’s sloppy journalism, or just really bad misquoting. I have a great relationship with the Marvel team, and the character of Heimdall. People are really running with this thing like, ‘Oh my God, he doesn’t want to be with Marvel anymore.’ People thinking that comparing those roles means I don’t want to be with Marvel, well, that’s crazy.”
I’d like to think I would have tried to do a bit more reading into Elba’s original comments before saying that he sounded like he wanted out of the Upcoming Thor Ragnarok and Avengers Age of Ultron. The loss of Idris Elba would be a terrible blow to the MC; he’s such a great compelling actor.
