Joss Whedon: No Post-Credits Stinger for Avengers Age of Ultron

WUT?! Sacrilege!

Joss Whedon, the director of the first Avengers movie and the soon to premiere Avengers Age of Ultron told EW that there will be no post credits scene in the upcoming sequel. Some fans might not take that at face value though. After all, Marvel has pulled some conditioning for post credit’s stingers on its fans that would make Pavlov proud.

“There is nothing at the very end. And that’s not a fake-out,” Whedon says. “We want people to know so they don’t sit there for 10 minutes and then go: ‘Son of a bitch! I’ll kill them!’” He explains further that he and others on the Ultron team couldn’t come up with anything that would work for a post credits stinger.

“It didn’t seem to lend itself in the same way, and we wanted to be true to what felt right,” Whedon says. “The first rule of making a sequel is take the best moments and do something else. Don’t do the Indiana Jones gun trick again differently. Just go somewhere else. Don’t try to hit the same highs, because people will sense it.”

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is quick to clarify that there will still be a mid-credits epilogue scene, just no scene that comes after the credits have completely rolled.

Meh, no big deal. Certainly not dampening my out of this world excitement for Avengers Age of Ultron, coming to theaters May 1st!
