Like promised, Koji Igarashi’s Swordorwhip campaign has revealed a new game in development, with funding turned over to crowdfunding platform Kickstarter which has already reached $364,000 of its $500,000 goal in under one day of elapsed timing. In the promotional video, Igarashi explains that he has been absent from the side scrolling action genre for far too long, and wishes to enhance the genre even further by developing his own game with his own rules.
If funded, the game will be developed for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC, with the musical composition being handled by Castlevania: Symphony of the Night composer Michiru Yamane and software development by Inti Creates, who had worked on Megaman Zero, Shantae, and other side scrolling action games. Bloodstained tells the story of Miriam, a young orphan scarred by an alchemist’s curse, slowly turning her skin into crystal. She must venture a demon filled castle summoned by fellow cursed friend Gebel, in order to rid herself of the crystal curse and maintain her humanity.
Bloodstained is currently on Kickstarter, with stretch goals including $600,000 for a hardcover artbook, $700,000 for a second playable character, $800,000 for a Nightmare difficulty mode, and $850,000 to include veteran voice actor David Hayter. You can check out the Kickstarter page here.
