Maisie Williams Hints at The End of Arya Stark

*SIGH*

This is one of those moments where it’s not so satisfying to be a reader of the books compared to TV only viewers. Because Arya is such a well-loved character, and arguably the most interesting of the remaining Starks, potential hints at her future story are very enticing to fans of the show.

But when Maisie Williams herself starts saying things like “We’re coming to the end now, so I don’t know what they’re going to do next year. It’s the end of Arya, as far as anyone knows.” In her recent interview with The Guardian, Fans are going to be scrambling to find out if Arya really is going to DIE OMG!!!!

Then as I book reader, I feel obligated to spoil it because otherwise I’m going to be pestered with questions about Arya’s fate.

Here’s the shortest answer I can give without spoilers. In so far as George R. R. Martin as published, Arya Stark has not died.

But then, what could Maisie have possibly meant? I hear you whimper.

WHEN YOU SPOIL THE GAME OF THRONES, YOU WIN OR YOU DIE!

Last we saw Arya, she was sailing on a ship bound for Bravos to find the House of the Many Faced God, from which her idol and friend Jaqen H’ghar hailed. Arya does find the mysterious distributors of death in the exotic city and begins a vexing, brutal initiation that involves completely forsaking her previous identity as Arya Stark of Winterfell. Her old life does indeed end.

There, are you relieved? Hopefully with her training, she’ll be able to enact the stealthy demise of one of the remaining villains in the books or the show. I’m hoping it will be Ramsey. After all, Valar Morghulis.

Game of Thrones Season 5 will return to HBO in the Spring.
