The month of June means summer has finally arrived, and one of the best ways to beat the summer heat is to stay inside and watch a good movie on the Netflix streaming service. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at what is new in the Netflix catalog.
Wayne’s World (1992)
This classic comedy starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey is based on the Saturday Night Live sketch about two slacker friends and a cable access show. This was one of the most successful SNL character movies and launched the movie careers of the two comedians.
Rudy (1993)
Rudy has always been told that he was too small to play college football. But he is determined to overcome the odds and fulfill his dream of playing for Notre Dame. A movie that will make fans of college football feel a quiver in their throat, this is a terrific underdog story that still holds up 20 years later.
Loser (2000)
A college student, branded a loser by his roommates and booted from the dorm, falls in love with a coed who has eyes for their condescending professor. Jason Biggs tries to make a move away from his “American Pie” role with this dark comedy.
Mission: Impossible III (2006)
Ethan Hunt comes face to face with a dangerous and sadistic arms dealer while trying to keep his identity secret in order to protect his girlfriend in the third installment of this franchise. Tom Cruise is in top form and Philip Seymour Hoffman has a lot of fun with an evil villain role that could’ve been campy, but instead stays grounded.
Cold Mountain (2003)
In the waning days of the American Civil War, a wounded soldier embarks on a perilous journey back home to Cold Mountain, North Carolina to reunite with his sweetheart. Jude Law plays the lead role and Nicole Kidman the sweetheart waiting at home in this adaptation of a novel by Charles Frazier. The film also co-starred Renee Zellweger, who took home an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
There are five good movies that are new in June on Netflix and worth checking out. There is a wide variety to choose from and unfortunately, the rest of the catalog is getting a bit stale, so hopefully these and some of the others that are being added will give it the shot in the arm it needs as we head into the middle part of the year.
