80s action flicks loved to have their main badasses beat up street punks. The original 1984 Terminator got in on that action when the first Arnold Terminator lifted his clothes and a heart off some unlucky bums.
So this clip from Terminator Genisys is going to look oddly familiar to longtime Terminator fans. Same location, same characters, same fresh-off-the-assembly-line Arnold. But this time, aged reprogrammed Arnold is there to intervene.
I’ll admit, the scene roused a bit of fanboy squee. It’s a shame that I came up with nitpicks, though, as I was watching it. Old Arnold plugs Mint Arnold with three blasts from his shotgun that we see in the clip. And all the shots just dent and ricochet off him as though his skin is just as metal as his endoskeleton. Need I remind everybody that the Terminators are supposed to have believable flesh and blood exteriors? Why isn’t the skin on Mint Arnold chest and shoulders warping and bleeding?
Nitpick. But the movie didn’t need to give itself these kinds of extra problems with a PG-13 Rating.
We’ll still have to wait and see if these are the least of the movie’s problems when Terminator Genisys debuts July 1st.
