Pirates 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales Begins Filming in Australia

We’re really still doing this, huh?

Johnny Depp is back for another go round as the flamboyant, plucky (Captain) Jack Sparrow. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has officially begun production on locations in Australia and Village Roadshow Studios.

Espen Sandberg & Joachim Rønning are directing and the script is by Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull).

Besides Depp, Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs and Stephen Graham as Scrum are all back. Javier Bardem, Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites and Golshifteh Farahani are all joining the cast.

Here’s the official synopsis from Disney,

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

Here’s hoping it’s at least fun. Pirates 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales sets sail in theaters Summer 2017.
