Square-Enix Announces Star Ocean 5

In this month’s Famitsu as reported by *Gematsu, Square-Enix is set to announce the fifth installment in the Star Ocean franchise of JRPGs, Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Published by Square-Enix, and developed by tri-Ace, Star Ocean 5 takes place between 2 and 3, on the uncivilized planet of Feycreed, 6000 light years from Earth. Starring Fidel Camus and Miki Sorvesta, two childhood friends tasked with protecting their village, they meet a girl named Lilia who has lost both her memories and emotions. According to Famitsu, battles are seamless and in real-time, like previous entries in the franchise, but with seamless events such as enemies being able to capture your allies which will have their own branching outcomes.

With Akira Yasuda (Turn A Gundam, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike) responsible for character design, Shuichi Kobayashi (Star Ocean, The Last Remnant, Grandia III) leading producing the project, and Yoshiharu Gotanda (Star Ocean, Resonance of Fate, Valkyrie Profile) finishing off as Lead Programmer, the team has some veteran members and real dedication to the project. In an interview with Famitsu, the team expressed the desire to issue a reassurance to the fans, which is partly why the game’s logo is similar to Star Ocean 3. No release date has been made just yet, but with Square-Enix’s recent mystery announcement now settled, that’s two major projects outside Final Fantasy that the developer has announced in just a month’s time.
