The Star Wars films have always been kind of a rite of passage for entertainment formats. Seeing them available on DVD, then Blu-ray and now Digital Download, is kind of a sign of that format’s success and prevalence.
Walt Disney Studios, Lucasfilm Ltd. And 20th Century Fox are finally releasing the entire current Star Wars Saga to digital retailers including iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, Vudu, Amazon, Xbox Video, PlayStation Store, and Verizon FiOS. They’ll be available individually and as a complete set.
For those curious, the original trilogy will be come in their special edition versions for the digital download. Looks like we’ll still have to wait for that original version original trilogy on Blu-ray.
Bonus features will include deleted scenes from all six films, interviews with George Lucas, sound designer Ben Burt and design director Doug Chaing and more.
“It’s only fitting that audiences enjoy this legendary saga and its many fascinating behind-the-scenes stories on a wide variety of platforms, and we’re very excited to finally bring all six films to Digital HD for the first time,” said Alan Bergman, president of the Walt Disney Studios.
“We’ve created some very special bonus material which delves into the Saga’s rich history, including new and never-before-released conversations between legendary Star Wars artists – the masters who helped George bring his iconic universe to life,” Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said.
You can find the Star Wars Saga on digital download Friday!
