A long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away, Star Wars fans that also happened to love video games were sent flocking to arcades or to game stores to spend their (or their parents’) hard earned money on the amazing mash up of these two loves: Star Wars video games!! They have been around since the dawn of the gaming and George Lucas knew right from the beginning that the two geekdoms would go hand in hand perfectly. And he was so, so right.
Grand Theft Auto V was a very ambitious game. Not only was it the largest open world game that RockStar Games has ever created with so many different locations. But it was three epic stories of three incredible characters that consistently collided to make a gritty and unforgettable tale. One major thing that made Grand Theft Auto V so different was the new game changing mechanic never seen in any other game that allowed you to switch on the fly between the three main protagonists giving you a chance to experience the different sides of each of them.
It’s that time of year, my favorite epic readers. It’s October, Halloween is around the corner, and if you guys are anything like me that means it is time to dust off some of the old survival horror favorites and game until we scare ourselves silly. This is a yearly tradition for me, and I am sure I am not alone. Sure, you could sit down and watch a horror movie and it would be scary, creepy, and uncomfortable. The wonderful thing about playing a scary game is that you are literally interacting, making things happen, forcing yourself to turn that corner knowing in your terrified heart of hearts that a zombie dog is probably going to crash through that window at any moment to make you crap your pants and yelp in terror. You feel like you are living every second of panic and that is what truly makes the survival horror game experience so fantastic. What makes a great survival horror game, in my humble opinion, is when a game places you in a horrifying situation and a lack of ammo (be it bullets or film a la Fatal Frame) when you know you are about to be surrounded but hordes of enemies with nowhere to go while you stand there trying to map out how you will make it through.
Strawberry pink hair, ties and bows all over, platform boots, and, the cherry on top, a plaid mini-skirt are the makings of Junko Enoshima’s signature look. Junko, from the popular murder mystery visual novel “Danganronpa: Academy of Hope and High School Students of Despair”, is a fan favorite with her multi-faceted personality and distinct fashion sense.
We are soon launching into a new era of console gaming, my little epic followers, and first on the list is Sony’s next installment, the Playstation 4. Consoles have long ago moved on from being “just a game system”. They are now full blown, all in one entertainment machines. With the release of the Playstation 4 this week, as well as the Xbox One next week, the console gaming world takes it to the next level of power, entertainment, and beauty. Games will be faster, sleeker, and more realistic than ever before. Video games and the technology that make them possible have now become something we could have only dreamed of way back in the days of Atari and Pong. It truly has become its own art form and consoles like the new Playstation 4 and Xbox One (not to mention PC!) help usher us into a new era of innovation. So how do you know which system is right for you?
