No character is as terrifyingly recognizable as the demonic nurses populating the game world of Silent Hill. Both sexy and scary they have intrigued games for years all through their various designs. One thing remains through most every model: their hideously warped and deformed faces. For my own recent Silent Hill Nurse cosplay, the task I was most intimidated by was replicating this grotesque deformity that would be so key in bringing my cosplay to life. This was no easy task, but with a little advice the progress can be easier and honestly, pretty fun as well!
It’s that time of year, my favorite epic readers. It’s October, Halloween is around the corner, and if you guys are anything like me that means it is time to dust off some of the old survival horror favorites and game until we scare ourselves silly. This is a yearly tradition for me, and I am sure I am not alone. Sure, you could sit down and watch a horror movie and it would be scary, creepy, and uncomfortable. The wonderful thing about playing a scary game is that you are literally interacting, making things happen, forcing yourself to turn that corner knowing in your terrified heart of hearts that a zombie dog is probably going to crash through that window at any moment to make you crap your pants and yelp in terror. You feel like you are living every second of panic and that is what truly makes the survival horror game experience so fantastic. What makes a great survival horror game, in my humble opinion, is when a game places you in a horrifying situation and a lack of ammo (be it bullets or film a la Fatal Frame) when you know you are about to be surrounded but hordes of enemies with nowhere to go while you stand there trying to map out how you will make it through.
October is finally here! This month, filled with ghastly adventures, spooky and horrific horror films, and pumpkin-carving fun, is one of our favorite months of the year. Not only do we get to go on horror movie marathons and have mini heart attacks at haunted houses with our friends, but it is the perfect time to create cosplays of our favorite horror movie/video game characters. A perfect source of inspiration for cosplay on Halloween would definitely be long-standing survival horror franchise, Silent Hill.
The Silent Hill franchise has been scaring fans since 1999 with nine different games, one arcade version, two movies, and various other cross-media adaptations! It has easily become one of the most well known and popular horror series. Along with game boss, Pyramid Head, Silent Hill’s best known creature is the Nurse. Making an appearance in every title related to the series with minor differences, they have become synonymous with the name Silent Hill. The Nurse symbolizes the fear of hospitalization, insanity, illness, and death for all of the series protagonists.
