Who would have thought that after thirty years, Arnold Schwarzenegger would be starring in another Terminator movie? The famous line, “I’ll be back” has held true. He’s back, and he’s ready for some action. EW has dropped some new details about the plot, along with a couple new first look covers featuring the cast.
Terminator: Genisys is the first of the trilogy set in 2029, Future War is all over the news, artificial intelligence system Skynet seems to be barely hanging on by a thread. John Connor, played by Jason Clarke, is the leader of the resistance and Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) happily follows like a long lost puppy. Connor sends Reese to 1984 to save Sarah (Emilia Clarke) from one of the Terminators that have been sent out to kill her so that she won’t give birth to her bouncing baby boy, John. Of course, getting there, things turn into quite the mess and Reese is sent to rehash a new plan.
“Since she was 9 years old, she has been told everything that was supposed to happen,” says Producer David Ellison. “But Sarah fundamentally rejects that destiny. She says, ‘That’s not what I want to do.’ It’s her decision that drives the story in a very different direction.”
There is a lot more in the report, including this interesting tidbit:
“Sarah Connor isn’t the innocent she was when Linda Hamilton first sported feathered hair and acid-washed jeans in the role. Nor is she Hamilton’s steely zero body-fat warrior in 1991’s T2. Rather, the mother of humanity’s messiah was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she’s been raised by (brace yourself) Schwarzenegger’s Terminator—an older T-800 she calls “Pops”—who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who’s great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion. We know that the story will follow the 1984 film and coincide with the presented information. In case it has been a while, we might want to reacquaint ourselves and watch Terminator again!”
