Rainbow Dash is one of the main characters of the international sensation My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. She’s a blue Pegasus pony with a rainbow main and tail, and has a cloud with a three-colored lightning bolt as a cutie mark. She can often be found napping on a cloud, practicing a new trick, or actually doing her job of maintaining Ponyville’s weather (she’s not known for being up and at her job early in the morning). She can be extremely boastful at times, but always comes through for her friends. She’s determined to reach her goals, but is loyal to her friends and Ponyville, and will always try to help them in their time of need.
Rainbow Dash shines with self confidence, but can be over confident to the point where her friends need to teach her a valuable lesson about pride. Her reputation as a prankster is well established in the series. There are a handful of popular episodes that show Rainbow Dash’s mischievous nature and love of pranking and spooking her pony friends.
She can also be brash, sometimes blurting out things that could be taken as hurtful, like when she tosses away a book given to her by Twilight Sparkle. Dash ends up taking up the book after a brief interlude of boredom, and develops a love for reading. Still, she hides this new passion for a while, as she’s a dedicated and passionate athlete, and doesn’t want to be seen as an “egghead.” Of course, there’s a moral to this story and a lesson to be learned. Sometimes, Rainbow Dash comes off as a little too cool. She’ll occasionally wear dark sunglasses, like when bragging about her heroic deeds, trying to hide the fact that she was sleeping during a lecture, and trying to “act casual” during the Equestria Games.
As an athlete, Rainbow Dash has a strong competitive streak. In the episode “Rainbow Falls,” Rainbow Dash comes to the conclusion that even though she loves winning, she loves her friends “waaaaay more.” Her bragging isn’t a bunch of empty noise. She’s proven herself as the best flyer in Equestria. Her flying skill has come in handy on numerous occasions, and even served to saved the lives of fellow pony Rarity and her heroes, the Wonderbolts.
Rainbow Dash is a colorful character inside and out. It’s easy to see why she’s a fan favorite. Leaping Lizard‘s cosplay does this pony proud. Her interpretive cosplay of Rainbow Dash is fun, strong, and fabulous. The wings are perfectly adorable and those knee-high boots are to-die-for awesome. We absolutely love the rainbow wig and the way she uses makeup to continue Dash’s color scheme. The blue lamé top and shorts, the shiny rainbow armbands, and – of course – those boots give the entire ensemble a late 70’s, early 80’s vibe, which harkens back to the original My Little Pony toys’ debut in 1982. The little blue ears on the wig are an awesome touch, and don’t miss how Rainbow Dash’s cutie mark is displayed on the boots. This cosplay shows off the best of Rainbow Dash, fun-loving, but determined, attitude and all.
