Evan Daugherty has been hired on to write the script for the Tomb Raider reboot, based on the same intriguing heroine, Lara Croft. Daugherty has written several other films, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Divergent, and G.I. Joe 3, to name a few. Warner Bros. and MGM are collaborating on the project, with Warner Bros. taking on the distribution role.
The first Tomb Raider movie back in 2001 starred Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft, the archaeologist on a whirlwind adventure. Together with the 2003 sequel, the films grossed $432 million worldwide. The reboot is working at a fast pace, in the hopes of repeating that success.
The current plot idea would involve Lara Croft on her first archaeological adventure in a prequel. With Jolie unlikely to reprise her role as the younger version of the heroine, casting the right lead actress to play Lara Croft will be key to the reboot’s success.
