The DC Supervillian team up movie has landed some pretty big, interesting names. Will Smith gets to make a second impression after Handcock, Tom Hardy will be back in the DC Universe, and Jared Leto will have the honor of bringing the Joker back to life for the first time on screen since Heath Ledger.
Much of the buzz seems to be that Leto will be a similarly home-run casting to Ledger; someone you wouldn’t necessarily think of fit for the role off the bat but undoubtedly talented enough and with quite a diverse filmography. Dallas Buyers Club certainly brought Leto front and center in the Hollywood critical eye.
Quite the Lineup. Warner Brothers reportedly has all kinds of ambitious visions for the film. Jessie Eisenberg is rumored to be appearing as Lex Luthor, which would definitely make a strong link between Suicide Squad and Batman V Superman. They have also repeatedly pitched the project as the Oceans 11 of comic book movies and they are also apparently seeking Oprah Winfrey to play Amanda Waller, the government agent overseeing the Suicide Squad’s legitimate new leaf, ala Nick Fury.
Now I’m definitely interested. Suicide Squad is arriving in theaters August 2016.
